Modeling and Data Assimilation Element

of the U.S. JGOFS strategy

From the U.S. JGOFS implementation plan, there is a strong sense of the importance of this element in the overall strategy and ultimate success of the U.S. JGOFS program:

	Modeling activities are critical to the success of JGOFS
	synthesis.  Model representations are the means by which we
	will test the products of integration among process studies,
	time series stations, and global surveys. Modeling will be
	required to fully assimilate the understanding gained through
	JGOFS in comprehensive analyses of the ocean's role in the
	global carbon cycle.
