The final US JGOFS cruise took the research vessel icebreaker, Nathaniel B. Palmer, from McCurdo Station in Antarctica to Christchurch, New Zealand. Neither ice, cold, nor high winds and rough seas deterred scientists and crew from collecting a wide range of oceanic samples.
