Subject: Comparison Study of Satellite-Based Primary Production
Models
Dear
Colleague,
NASA has recently funded us (Mary-Elena Carr and Marjy Friedrichs
in collaboration with Janet Campbell and Dick Barber) to coordinate
a comparison of models that estimate marine primary production from
satellite measurements of ocean color (PP models). Although there
presently exist several fine models, their results differ substantially.
Perhaps you have developed or are running a PP model for your study
region or maybe you would like to use the output of one. We are
looking for people who have developed, modified, or are running
a PP model who would like to participate. This is an opportunity
for us to help you determine how your model compares with others
given identical input fields, understand how and why it differs,
and identify its strengths as well as the regions where it may give
anomalous results. We would also like to hear from people who do
not want to participate with a model, but would like to be kept
apprised of the results of the model comparison (which will be accessible
via the web). Please write Mary-Elena at mec@pacific.jpl.nasa.gov
to let us know if you want to learn more. Email with more information
will be forthcoming soon to those who respond. Please forward this
message to colleagues that you think may be interested.
Thanks!
Mary-Elena Carr and Marjy Friedrichs
