Subject: Postdoctoral Scientist/Ocean Carbon modeling

The School of Oceanography at the University of Washington invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist position for a three year Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) Synthesis and Modeling project. The project involves investigation of mechanisms controlling the biological pump and CO2 uptake rates in the North Pacific. The incumbent will closely collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of biogeochemical observationalist and modelers, chemists (Dr. Paul Quay and Dr. Steve Emerson) and a physical oceanographer (Dr. LuAnne Thompson) to incorporate the carbon cycle into an isopycnal circulation model of the North Pacific. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in oceanography or related field. Past experience with FORTRAN, C, and UNIX experience is highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with numerical modeling experience. The term of the appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years. Please send a one page letter of research experience and interests, a curriculum vitae, plus names, addresses and e-mails for four references to Professor Bruce W. Frost, Director, School of Oceanography, University of Washington, Box 357940, Seattle, WA 98195. For further information, contact Dr. LuAnne Thompson (206-543-9965 OR luanne@ocean.washington.edu). Priority will be given to materials received before November 15, 2001. The University of Washington is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. It is building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from women and minority candidates.
