Subject: Postdoctoral Investigator

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Department of Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry is looking for a Postdoctoral Investigator for an 18-month term and possible six month extension. This position is supported by a grant from the NSF U.S. JGOFS Synthesis and Modeling Program entitled, "A Coupled Epipelagic-Meso/Bathypelagic Particle Flux Model for the Bermuda Atlantic Time-series Study (BATS)/Oceanic Flux Program (OFP) Site". The goal of this project is to develop a mesopelagic ecosystem model to help explain the flux of carbon from the surface to the benthos. The successful candidate will closely collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of biogeochemical observationalists and modelers and will be experienced in numerical modeling of complex ecosystems, analysis of time-series data, and system analysis approach to complex problems. A Ph.D. in oceanography or a related geoscience is required. Past experience with FORTRAN, MatLab and UNIX is highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with numerical modeling experience. Anticipated start date: December 2001. Send curriculum vitae and statement of research interests by 1 November 2001.
