Subject: Microbial Biology-Possible Postdoctoral Position

Potential Postdoctoral Position in Microbial Biology Associated with 5-year Biocomplexity Project Recent Ph.D. wanted to jointly pursue an NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Microbial Biology in conjunction with a recently funded Biocomplexity Project. The Biocomplexity project is titled: Development of an Instrument for In Situ Measurement of Microbial Enzyme Activities in Aquatic Ecosystems, and the PIs are Jim Ammerman and Bob Chant (both Rutgers) and Gary Klinkhammer (Oregon State). Brief summary of Biocomplexity project: The goal of this project is to develop a remotely operated instrument for in situ measurement of microbial enzyme activities and to deploy it at the Rutgers University Long-term Ecosystem Observatory (LEO-15), for periods of weeks to months. This instrument should be capable of the simultaneous measurement of multiple enzyme activities. The LEO-15 Observatory and additional sensors will provide a context for the microbial rate measurements. Application requirements: Recent Ph.D. in aquatic microbial ecology with a background and interest in microbial cell-surface enzyme activities. Instrumentation and quantitative skills are a plus. Please send a letter of interest, short CV, and three references ASAP, preferably by e-mail to:
