The Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma) of the Meteorological Service of Canada seeks a Research Scientist in the area of ocean climate analysis. The successful candidate will (i) carry out research into the role of the ocean in global climate variability and change by analyzing both ocean observations and ocean model output, and (ii) develop and apply innovative analysis methods and approaches to identify and understand the role of various processes in shaping the past, present and future state of the ocean. He or she will be part of a CCCma research team that develops and applies comprehensive global climate models for use in basic climate research and in projections of future climate change. The group is located on the campus of the University of Victoria. The position requires a Ph.D. in oceanography, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Desirable experience includes planning and conducting original research related to the role of the ocean in climate variability and change, developing and applying diagnostic methods for use in analyzing large-scale ocean observations and global ocean model output, and participating in collaborative or team research. Salary range is Canadian $42,948 - $88,674 per annum. Salary upon appointment will be commensurate with qualifications. This is a 3 year appointment with longer-term potential.
