Subject:
Coupled Boundary Layer Modeller - University of Victoria, Canada
The
Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCMA) at the
University of Victoria (UVic) seeks a postdoctoral research associate
to develop a coupled ocean-atmosphere boundary layer model for biogeochemical
studies. The collaborative project between Drs. Ken Denman, Norm
McFarlane, and Chris Garrett is part of the recently-funded 5-year
Canadian SOLAS (Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study) Research Network.
The successful candidate will develop and test a one-dimensional
columnar coupled atmosphere-ocean boundary model, with the atmospheric
module based loosely on the current CCCMA atmospheric single column
model. The coupled model will be used (i) to examine the key processes
that regulate gas transfers across the air-sea interface, and (ii)
to drive biogeochemical modules of climate-related carbon, DMS (dimethyl
sulphide) and Fe (iron) cycles. The overall aim is to identify processes
to which model results are sensitive and to work with observational
groups to improve the parameterizations used in the models. This
work will involve collaboration with other research groups, both
at CCCMA and UVic, and in the Canadian SOLAS network. The position
requires a PhD in atmospheric science, oceanography or a related
discipline, with a mathematical and modelling background.
CCCMA
is part of the Meteorological Service of Canada in collaboration
with the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of
Victoria and the nearby Institute of Ocean Sciences of Fisheries
and Oceans Canada. Inquiries and applications (including the names
of three references) should be sent by mail, e-mail, or fax to:
