Subject: AGU Special Session

This message is to announce a special session at Fall AGU in San Francisco (Dec 10-14) on multidisciplinary research at Bermuda and in the SW North Atlantic gyre which has been facilitated by sustained time-series observations. Submission of abstracts on any topic related to the session is encouraged. Please tell other colleagues which may be interested in contributing. Abstracts are due Aug 30 (Mail submission) or Sept 6 (Web submission).See you in San Francisco! Maureen Conte and Tony Knap Towards a Sargasso Observatory: Integrated physical, biogeochemical and atmospheric studies of the southwestern North Atlantic Ocean The session will present interdisciplinary research from the Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Carioco time-series sites as well as other collaborative research which has been facilitated by sustained ocean and atmospheric time-series observations. The session will focus on interdisciplinary research results which contribute to a better holistic understanding of the workings of the subtropical gyre. It will also introduce to the wider ocean and atmospheric community the various research components and opportunities within the nascent Sargasso SeaOcean/Atmosphere Observatory, a consortium formed to coordinate and facilitate research and infrastructure needs in support of science in the region.
