With the Global Change Open Science Conference only 6 months away, preparations for the meeting are intensifying. Here is an update:

HOTELS. July is high tourist season in Amsterdam and hotels are already beginning to fill up. Please book your hotel room now to avoid disappointment. Also, the Conference website has contact information (via the Amsterdam Tourist Bureau) for hostels and other inexpensive accommodation.

NEWSLETTER. A special issue of the IGBP NewsLetter on the Conference is now being distributed. Please read it for the latest information on programme, plenary, parallel session, poster sessions, support for developing country scientists, media campaign and more. For a taste of the science itself to be presented in Amsterdam, the NewsLetter gives previews of several of the plenary talks.

POSTER CLUSTERS. A poster cluster is a small number of posters (3 or greater) all contributing directly to a focused topic within one of the Conference's 8 broad Themes. Poster Clusters are an excellent way to highlight a specific area of research to a large audience, meet new colleagues, expand networks, and strengthen connections between researchers and the international programmes. Please see the Conference website for more details on this Œself-organisingš part of the meeting, and for instructions on how you can get together with your colleagues and present your research in a coordinated way.

DEVELOPING COUNTRY SCIENTISTS. We are working hard to secure as much funding as possible to support scientists from developing countries, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Please check the Conference website for instructions on how to apply for this support. Although we already have significant funding, we regret that it will not be possible to support everyone that we would like to. Please apply now if you are interested.

STUDENT POSTER PRIZE. An award of 250 Euro will be made for the best student-authored poster in EACH of the 8 poster themes. Please encourage students from your department to make a poster presentation on their work at Amsterdam and compete for this prize.

DOWNLOADABLE MATERIAL. We have now placed some downloadable material first announcement, poster, on the Conference website. Please use this material if you would like to pass on information about the Conference to your colleagues or advertise the Conference in your department.
