EGS-Meeting: North Atlantic JGOFS related session
Dear
Colleague,
We'd like to draw your attention to a symposium where we feel your
group would be able to contribute immensely. As part of the XXVII
General Assembly of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) in Nice,
France, 22-26 April 2002, we will be convening a session entitled
BIOGEOCHEMISTRY OF THE CARBON CYCLE OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN (OA8,
co-sponsored by BG). Since the success of this meeting depends both
on interesting contributions and numerous participation, we would
welcome all submissions that help us to reach this goal within the
framework of the abstract attached below. Feel free to distribute
this call for papers to whom it may concern.
Sincerely yours,
Wolfgang Koeve, Jim Aiken and Veronique Garcon
ABSTRACT: Various programs in ocean biogeochemistry have been conducted
during the recent decade in the (North) Atlantic Ocean. Combining
results from local scale studies, time series stations (ESTOC, BATS),
hydrographical surveys (joint JGOFS/WOCE efforts, AMT, etc.), remote
sensing (e.g. SeaWIFS) and simulation models, different types of
synthesis activities are currently under way, partly as a contribution
to the JGOFS synthesis and modelling effort. It is the aim of this
session to highlight results from these synthesis works and to discuss
results from more recent and ongoing field activities (e.g. AMT,POMME).
Presentations may include, and will not be limited to, treatments
in the following areas: basin, regional, and local scale models
of ocean processes, CO2 fluxes and distributions, euphotic zone
production and export, foodweb structure and plankton functional
groups, particle flux and transformations, export processes of carbon,
stoichiometry of the biological pump (including nitrogen fixation),
testing of the concept of biogeographical provinces, and longer-term
changes in ecosystem function and biogeochemical cycles, assimilation
work combining coupled physical/biological models with observations.
This session aims at supporting truly interdisciplinary research
from physical, chemical and biological oceanographers. Oral and
poster sessions are requested.
