Subject: Call for nominations: Ocean Sciences Award

Dear members of the Ocean Sciences community:
The Ocean Sciences Section of AGU invites nominations for the Ocean Sciences Award. Established in 1982, the Ocean Sciences Award is presented for outstanding and long-standing service to the ocean sciences. Service in the context of the Ocean Sciences Award is defined in broad terms. Past awardees - from federal agencies, academia and private industry - are individuals who have provided exceptional service, guidance or leadership to the ocean sciences community. Past awardees are Richard B. Lambert, Jr., 1999; Polly A. Penhale, 1997, Donald F. Heinrichs, 1996; Mary Hope Katsouros, 1996; Robert Heinmiller, 1995; Neil R. Andersen, 1994; Ned A. Ostenso, 1992; Nicholas P. Fofonoff, 1989; John A. Knauss, 1988; Gordon R. Hamilton, 1987; J. Michael Hall, 1986; Curtis A. Collins, 1985; W. Stanley Wilson, 1984; Wayne V. Burt, 1984; Feenan D. Jennings, 1984; Robert E. Wall, 1983; Richard C. Vetter, 1983; Eugene C. LaFond, 1982. Nomination packages, consisting of a nominating letter, a curriculum vitae of the nominee and two supporting letters, should be submitted (preferably by email) by October 31, 2001, to:
