Subject:
AGU special session on Carbon Cycle and Climate
Dear
Colleague:
Please pass to any interested party the following announcement of
a AGU special session on Carbon Cycle and Climate. Thank you! -Ning
Zeng, Martin Heimann, Nicolas Gruber
Special session for the Fall 2002 AGU meeting, Dec. 6-10, San Francisco
GC02: Carbon Cycle and Climate: Past, Present and Future
The atmospheric CO2 and climate have often varied in close relationship
throughout Earth's history. While the change in carbon cycle controls
climate through the greenhouse effect, climate change influences
atmospheric CO2 by modifying various aspects of the global carbon
cycle both over land and in the ocean. Understanding the changing
carbon cycle and its relationship with climate is at the center
stage of Earth System Science. This special session intends to bring
together scientists from traditionally separate disciplines in the
atmosphere, ocean, land, terrestrial and ocean biology on a topic
of fundamental importance to the society. The session will be stratified
according to time scales rather than disciplines, such as geological,
glacial-interglacial, seasonal to interannual time scales, as well
as the projection of future CO2 and climate. Both observational
and modeling work are welcome.
