Subject:
Ocean Biogeochemical Modeling - ESSIC/University of Maryland
The
Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) at the University
of Maryland seeks a Postdoctoral-level research associate to work
on carbon cycle modeling in the tropical oceans. The successful
candidate will work on developing, testing and analyzing a basin
scale model of the carbon cycle in the tropical oceans, based on
an existing biogeochemical ocean model. The position requires a
Ph.D. in Oceanography or a related discipline. Experience in numerical
modeling of ocean circulation and/or biogeochemical processes, and
fluency in English, Fortran, and Unix, is essential. This is a grant-funded
position with 3 full years of funding available. ESSIC is a joint
center between the University of Maryland Departments of Meteorology,
Geology, and Geography together with the Earth Sciences Directorate
at the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center. The goal of ESSIC is to
enhance our understanding of how the atmosphere-ocean-land-biosphere
components of the Earth interact as a coupled system and the influence
of human activities on this system. This is accomplished via studies
of the interaction between the physical climate system (e.g., El
Nino) and biogeochemical cycles (e.g., greenhouse gases, changes
in land use and cover). The major research thrusts of the center
are studies of Climate Variability and Change, Atmospheric Composition
and Processes, and the Global Carbon Cycle (including Terrestrial
and Marine Ecosystems/Land Use/Cover Change). Applications consisting
of a curriculum vitae, statement of professional goals, and the
names of three references should be sent to:
