Subject: A tropical ocean session at Ocean Sciences 2004

Dear JGOFSers,
This is a final circular to publicize our special session before the abstract deadline. All types of papers are welcome: models, observations, physics, chemistry, biology. The more interdisciplinary the better. We have several excellent speakers lined up already.
See you in Portland

OS14 Biogeochemical Cycling and Ecosystem Dynamics in Tropical Oceans: Models and Observations

Results from numerous multidisciplinary observational and modeling programs are providing insight into the many factors that control biogeochemical cycling and marine ecosystem dynamics in tropical oceans. These studies continue to highlight the tight coupling of physical and biological phenomena over a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. This session is intended to provide a framework for exchange of information resulting from these programs. Of particular interest are papers that consider linkages between physical and biological phenomena, effects of climate variability on ecosystems and biogeochemical cycles, applications of satellite data, and data assimilative modeling studies. Also, papers that discuss seasonal, interannual, and decadal variability of tropical ocean ecosystems are encouraged.
