Subject: Ocean Carbon Research Associate Research Scientist/Research Scientist

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a Associate Research/Research Scientist (open rank) to work on the ocean carbon cycle. Outstanding candidates will be considered at any rank, although this search is primarily targeted at junior scientists (up to approximately 6 years post Ph.D.) working in one of the following areas: • the biological pump (organic carbon cycling, production, export) or • the solubility pump (gas exchange, temperature and salinity effects, circulation). We are especially interested in individuals whose work will improve our understanding of the ocean carbon cycle, and its sensitivity to global change, at regional to global scales through externally funded field programs and innovative data analysis techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a growing group of chemists, biologists and engineers at LDEO focused on the ocean carbon cycle. The position carries salary support corresponding to rank as part of the Doherty Research Staff. This position requires a Ph.D. in Oceanography, Chemistry or a related field with experience in ocean carbon cycle research. Search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and until position is filled. Applicants should send a cover letter stating the name of the position (please include email address), specifying search number LD 670 04 029, curriculum vitae, a statement of research experience and interests, a list of publications, and names and contact information for three referees to: Ms. M. Mokhtari, Manager of Human Resources, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, Rt. 9W, Palisades, New York 10964-8000 or email to personnel@admin.ldeo.columbia.edu with search number LD 670 04 029 in subject line.
