Subject:Chemical
Oceanography/Modeling Research Faculty
We are seeking a scientist with expertise in the modeling of chemical
and biogeochemical processes in the ocean. The Division of Marine
and Atmospheric Chemistry at the Rosenstiel School has 17 faculty
who carry out research on topics such as: investigation of the rates
of ocean processes and their influence on climate, using anthropogenic
and naturally occurring geochemical tracers; laser-based spectroscopy
as applied to aqueous and gaseous phases; photochemistry; application
of physical chemistry to natural waters including the CO2 system;
microbial transformation of compounds in the marine environment;
atmospheric chemistry, air/sea exchange and reaction kinetics of
trace gases; modeling of the transport and chemical transformation
of atmospheric constituents; aerosol chemistry and global atmospheric
transport; marine biogeochemistry of the major elements. The Division
has strong research ties to the Divisions of Meteorology and Physical
Oceanography and Marine Biology and Fisheries, and to the Atlantic
Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory of NOAA. Ocean modeling
expertise within the Rosenstiel School is extensive (http://oceanmodeling.rsmas.miami.edu),
including the Miami Isopycnic Coordinate Model (MICOM) and the HYbrid
Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM). HYCOM is the core component of a
National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP) effort to develop a global
real-time ocean forecast system (http://hycom.rsmas.miami.edu).
There is also a strong atmospheric modeling component including
regional and global coupling to MICOM and HYCOM. Ph.D. in chemistry,
marine geochemistry, oceanography or related field is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally
funded research program and to publish in refereed journals. A curriculum
vitae, a summary of research experience and goals, and the names/addresses/phone
numbers of three references should be sent by June 1, 2003 to Modeling
Faculty Search Chair, Division Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry,
Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, 4600 Rickenbacker
Causeway, Miami, FL 33149 USA; (305) 361-4731. http://www.rsmas.miami.edu/divs/mac/.
The University of Miami is an equal opportunity/affirmative action
employer.
