Subject: British Columbia Leadership Chair in Marine Ecosystems and Global Change
The University of Victoria seeks applications for a prestigious British Columbia Leadership Chair in Marine Ecosystems and Global Change, jointly appointed in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, and the Department of Biology. The Chair is an endowed position that will be filled at the Professor level. The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized leader in the structure and function of marine food webs who combines innovative observational and experimental techniques with modeling of physical and biological processes to improve projections of the behaviour of marine ecosystems and their response to global climate change. The Chair holder would join a Faculty with many ocean-related research programs and growing infrastructure, including a coastal research vessel, the NEPTUNE and VENUS seafloor observatories, the Bamfield Marine Research Station, and close proximity to the west coast research fleet. The Chair holder must have strong leadership skills, demonstrated excellence in interdisciplinary research, a very strong publication record, a proven ability to maintain a high profile, externally funded research program, and a keen commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching. A focus on regional marine systems with application to British Columbia and with potential links to the University’s government research partners (the Institute for Ocean Sciences, the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis, and the Pacific Biological Station) is encouraged.
