Subject: Postdoctoral position.

To participate in the ongoing development, parameterization, and application of a multi-species model of marine pelagic ecosystems. This effort is data-driven; a combination of empirical and modeling experience is therefore highly desirable. Areas of special interest include the stoichiometry and allometry of phytoplankton and microbial growth and nutrient limitation; zooplankton ecology; and particle dynamics. Initial model application is to carbon cycle problems, including export of organic carbon to depth; future applications may involve toxic algal blooms and higher trophic levels. Required: Ph.D. in oceanography, ecology, mathematics, statistics, or other relevant field. Highly desired: knowledge of likelihood-based statistics and computer programming; empirical and/or modeling experience in areas listed above; experience in modeling ecological and/or biogeochemical systems. Experience in coupled physical/biological modeling a decided plus. Position available for at least 12 months, with probable extension. Starting date: late summer/autumn 2003. Salary $38,000 to $44,000 per year, depending on qualifications.
