ANALYSIS OF OBSERVING SYSTEMS TO DETECT POSSIBLE CHANGES IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC THERMOHALINE CIRCULATION PENN STATE UNIVERSITY

The Department of Geosciences at Penn State University seeks applications for a postdoctoral fellowship. The ideal candidate will be a scientist with broad interests in the scientific and economic aspects of potential abrupt climate change. The project analyzes observing systems to detect potential changes in the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation in terms of detection probability, economic performance, and their ability to inform the decisionmaking process. Familiarity with integrated assessment of climate change, statistics, and oceanography would be an advantage. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team including earth scientists, psychologists, policy analysts, and economists. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in earth sciences, applied mathematics, operations research, or a related field.
