Subject: TECHNICAL MANAGER - SIO OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA FACILITY

The UCSD/SIO Oceanographic Data Facility (ODF) is a community leader in performing reference quality measurements of seawater properties. SIO seeks broadly-qualified candidates for a technical leader to manage all ODF operations. Responsibilities include supervision of the group's staff in research and routine activities, direction of data acquisition and processing, participation in expeditions at sea worldwide, preparation of final data reports and of technical notes, and involvement with workshops for cruise planning and for advancement of hydrographic measurements. Under direction from the Manager of SIO Shipboard Technical Support and an Academic Administrator, the incumbent will manage all operations of the Oceanographic Data Facility. Responsibilities include oversight of all technical operations; supervision of the group's staff in the research and routine activities attendant to performing reference quality measurements of physical and chemical properties of seawater; and direction of the processing of data collected by in-situ instrumentation and data from laboratory analyses of collected seawater samples. Additional duties include participation in expeditions at sea worldwide, preparation of final data reports and of technical notes for scientific publications, and involvement with national and international workshops for cruise planning and for advancement of hydrographic measurements.
