Subject: The Evolution of Aquatic Photoautotrophs

Dear Friends and Colleagues:
It is with great pleasure that Andy Knoll and I invite you to attend a symposium titled, "The evolution of aquatic photoautrophs" at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey from 11-13 January 2006. This symposium, which is similar in format to Brookhaven Symposia in Biology from 1980 and 1990, is designed to review what we know and do not know about how major groups of photosynthetic organisms evolved in the oceans, from Precambrian time to the present.
