Subject: Research Assistantship

Research Assistantship available in support of CARIACO Oceanographic Time Series: The College of Marine Science of the University of South Florida, located in St. Petersburg, Florida, seeks applicants for graduate research assistantships beginning September 1, 2003. Candidates with degrees in Earth science, engineering, or related fields who are interested in working toward a higher academic degree (Masters or Doctorate) and in gaining field, laboratory, and data analysis skills are sought. The available project entails quantifying oceanographic processes that affect various particulate and carbon fluxes in the Cariaco Basin, located in the southern Caribbean Sea (CARIACO Oceanographic Time Series). Of particular interest are candidates with a strong multidisciplinary background who are focused on integration of mathematics, physics, and biogeochemical concepts to the solution of Earth science questions. The applicant must be willing to do year-round field work in all weather conditions and travel abroad to the field site and work with diverse cultures.
