Subject: Post-Doctoral Research Scientist Wanted

Several departments at Columbia University (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory; Earth and Environmental Engineering and Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology) and Barnard College are recruiting for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to carry out interdisciplinary research on the global nitrogen cycle. This position will be supported for 2 years in conjunction with a newly established program in Earth Microbiology at Columbia University . Particular areas of interest include: the genomic diversity of the present day nitrogen cycle and the application of new approaches to the analysis of its structure and organization at the global scale. The ideal candidate would have a background in biogeochemical cycling and microbial ecology and be familiar with molecular biology techniques such as FISH, DGGE, cloning and q-PCR. We also are interested in applying methods from bioinformatics to the analysis of biogeochemical systems and some familiarity with these approaches is highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English are required. Search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ads appear and until position is filled.
