Subject: Chemical Oceanographer Wanted at ODU
The Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Virginia) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in chemical oceanography/marine geochemistry. Candidates should have research interests that compliment existing strengths in biogeochemistry (trace element cycling, organic geochemistry), air-sea and sediment-water exchange, and ecosystem modeling. Qualifications for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor include a PhD in oceanography or related science, postdoctoral experience and a demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered for candidates who also demonstrate the existence of an active, independent research program and commensurate teaching experience. Currently the Department has 22 teaching faculty, 60 MS and PhD students, and 110 undergraduate Ocean and Earth Science majors. In addition to research facilities within the Oceanography and Physics Building, the Department operates the 55 ft R/V Fay Slover, a fully equipped marine support facility, and the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography has computing resources and ocean observing systems that support faculty research.
