Subject: Chemical Oceanographer Wanted at ODU

The Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Virginia) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in chemical oceanography/marine geochemistry.  Candidates should have research interests that compliment existing strengths in biogeochemistry (trace element cycling, organic geochemistry), air-sea and sediment-water exchange, and ecosystem modeling.  Qualifications for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor include a PhD in oceanography or related science, postdoctoral experience and a demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals.  Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered for candidates who also demonstrate the existence of an active, independent research program and commensurate teaching experience.  Currently the Department has 22 teaching faculty, 60 MS and PhD students, and 110 undergraduate Ocean and Earth Science majors.  In addition to research facilities within the Oceanography and Physics Building, the Department operates the 55 ft R/V Fay Slover, a fully equipped marine support facility, and the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography has computing resources and ocean observing systems that support faculty research.  Please submit a curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching interests, and names of three references to *Chair, Chemical Oceanography Search Committee, Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Old Dominion University, Norfolk VA 23529.* Review of applicants will begin 1 October 2006 and continue until the position is filled.  Old Dominion University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Institution and requires compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control act of 1986.
