POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT The College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences (COAS) at Oregon State University announces a new tenure-track faculty position in Geobiology. We seek a colleague with interest and expertise in microbial interaction with geological materials in the marine environment.
TITLE: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES: The appointee will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program, to interact with faculty colleagues, to advise and mentor graduate students, and to participate in the COAS teaching program and the subsurface biosphere Integrated Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program. QUALIFICATIONS: We are interested in a scientist with broad interests and who can contribute to multidisciplinary research in the area of microbiological mediation of geological processes or to molecular biological studies of microbes involved in subsurface geochemical processes. Essential qualifications include a Ph.D. in microbiology, biogeochemistry, or related field. This position is open at the Assistant Professor level for an early career scientist with high potential and with the ability or expectation of receiving external research funding, however, applicants with an exceptional record of research achievements, publishing of high impact scientific results, and other relevant experience may be considered at the Associate or Full Professor level. To be appointed at the Associate or Full Professor rank, an applicant must have sufficient experience to qualify for promotion according to the University guidelines. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. The College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences is in a period of aggressive expansion. COAS is one of the leading oceanographic and atmospheric research institutions in the United States with more than 200 faculty and staff members, and a wide variety of assets, including a superb computing infrastructure, cutting-edge analytical laboratories, an active instrumentation program, tethered and autonomous underwater vehicles, and two research vessels. We seek a colleague whose research will complement and enhance COAS’ internationally recognized research program in marine geology and marine and terrestrial geophysics. Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) is a research and teaching facility with approximately 250 resident staff located in Newport, Oregon on the Yaquina Bay estuary, about one mile from the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. HMSC plays an integral role in programs of marine and estuarine research and instruction for numerous OSU departments, as a laboratory facility serving resident scientists from several partner agencies including NOAA and EPA, as a base for far-ranging oceanographic studies, and as a classroom for students. Distance learning facilities are available to send and receive classes and other programming from Oregon State University, other OUS institutions and outside providers for students and members of the local communities.
