Subject: Special Session "Ecosystem Dynamics in Tropical Oceans: Models and Observations"

We would like to bring your attention to a special session on "Ecosystem Dynamics in Tropical Oceans: Models and Observations" for the 2004 Ocean Sciences Meeting in Portland, Oregon, 26-30 January 2004. The session has been approved by the program committee and is now listed on the meeting's Web site at http://www.agu.org/meetings/os04/ The deadline for Abstract Submissions is 16 October 2003, 1400 UT Ecosystem Dynamics in Tropical Oceans: Models and Observations Results from numerous multidisciplinary observational and modeling programs are providing insight into the many factors that control biogeochemical cycling and marine population dynamics in tropical oceans. These studies also continue to highlight the tight coupling of physical and biological phenomena over a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. This special session is intended to provide a framework for exchange of information resulting from these programs. We encourage both observational and modeling contributions that link physical and biological phenomena and examine climate-induced effects on tropical ecosystems. Of particular interest are papers that utilize ocean color data, ecosystem models, and/or data assimilative modeling techniques.
