Dear Colleagues,
Three items of SOLAS news for you: 1) UK SOLAS News 2) SOLAS related American Meteorological Society Conference - Boundary Layers and Turbulence/Interactions of the Air and Sea 3) Atmospheric chemistry postdoctoral scientist position at RSMAS, Miami.
For this and other jobs visit: http://www.uea.ac.uk/env/solas/jobs.html ________________________
1) UK SOLAS, a £12 million programme of the UK Natural Environment Research Council, is now up and running with a Steering Committee, a Science Coordination team and (very shortly) a 5-year science plan. The UK project office is based at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. If you would like more details about UK SOLAS, or to join their mailing list, contact claire.hughes@uea.ac.uk, of visit: http://www.uea.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/uk-solas-academic

2) American Meteorological Society Conference - Boundary Layers and Turbulence/Interactions of the Air and Sea http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/FAINST/portland04.html
MEETING CALL: 16th Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence, 913 August 2004, Portland, Maine The 16th Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence, sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Committee on Boundary Layers and Turbulence, is scheduled to be held in Portland, Maine, 913 August 2004. Information about the hotel has been posted on the AMS Web site (www.ametsoc.org). This symposium is being held in conjunction with the 13th Symposium on the Interaction of the Sea and Atmosphere. Joint sessions will be held on turbulent transport phenomena across the air-sea interface and surface layer gas fluxes. Contributions are solicited on the following topics: in situ and remote observational methods; parameterizations for atmosphere and ocean modeling; transport of long- and short-lived compounds across the airsea interface; fundamental studies of turbulenceobservations, theory, and models; surface layer interactions, fluxes, and heterogeneity; chemistry and atmospheric turbulence; turbulent dispersion; mesoscale to microscale advances in PBL modeling; boundary layer field experimentspast, current, and future; boundary layersstable, and convective, and transitional; clouds and entrainment; at the shorewhere the land, sea, and air meet; CBLAST; SOLAS; and ILEAPS. Please submit your abstract electronically via the Internet by 31 March 2004. Please refer to the AMS Website at http://www.ametsoc.org or see the AMS Bulletin for instructions on this electronic procedure. For further information, contact a program co-chairperson at these addresses: Walter Bach, U.S. Army Research Office, AMSRL-RO-EN, P.O.
