CD-ROM. volume 2, version 1 June 2004 (same content as README_1st.txt) This data report was prepared by the U.S. JGOFS Data Management Office at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and has been funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation. Copyright © 2004, WHOI The Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS), organized under the aegis of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), was a core project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP). U.S. JGOFS, a national component of JGOFS, included field studies conducted between 1989 and 1998 and brought together biological, chemical, physical and geological oceanographers and modelers in a multidisciplinary investigation of the pools and fluxes of carbon and associated biogenic elements in the ocean. The U.S. JGOFS research program comprised four basin-scale process studies, two long-term time-series programs, participation in a global survey of carbon dioxide (CO2) and a synthesis and modeling project. This CD-ROM contains only a portion of the results generated during the Synthesis and Modeling Project (SMP). Getting Started This CD-ROM is compatible with Windows, Macintosh, Linux and UNIX operating systems. To begin using this CD-ROM publication of results and supporting documentation generated during the U.S. JGOFS Synthesis and Modeling Project: -- quit all programs -- insert CD into disc drive Data access can be accomplished in two different ways on various operating systems: Method 1: web browser client (i.e. Mozilla, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari etc.) Double-click on/open welcome.htm to access the data report. -- Window's PC: web browser should autostart when CD-ROM is placed in drive -- On all other systems, open welcome.htm on the CD-ROM, using a web browser application. Specific instructions for opening welcome.htm on selected platforms/operating systems: Windows™ AutoPlay: On Windows systems, the default web browser client should automatically open the first page of the data report when the CD-ROM is placed in the drive. If the 'AutoPlay' feature does not work or returns an error, simply right click on the CD-ROM icon (from My Computer or Windows Explorer file manager window) and select "Open". This should allow you to view the CD-ROM file collection. Double-click on "welcome.htm" to begin. If the welcome file does not appear in the browser window, verify that you have quit all applications, especially web browser clients, then repeat these steps to open welcome.htm. UNIX: Double-click on the desktop CD-ROM icon and open welcome.htm using a web browser client. If you are unable to open welcome.htm in this manner, you may need to mount the CD-ROM.   mkdir /cdrom   HP-UX: mount -F cdfs -o cdcase device-name /cdrom   SGI/IRIX: mount -rt hsfs device-name /cdrom   SUN/Solaris: mount -rt hsfs device-name /cdrom UNIX: to unmount the CD-ROM   umount /cdrom  or  eject /cdrom All Operating Systems: Alternatively, if all previously described methods are unsuccessful, start your preferred web browser, select "Open" from the "File" menu, and navigate to the CD's "welcome.htm" file. Method 2: OS File Management System Use your operating system's file management system to open the data folder/subdirectory and search through the files for the data you're interested in.
