SMP Project | Modeling mesoscale biogeochemical processes in a TOPEX/POSEIDON diamond surrounding the U.S.JGOFS Bermuda Atlantic Time Series |
Product | Model results for the BATS region |
Description |
This project was an investigation of the role of mesoscale dynamics
and upper ocean processes on biogeochemical fluxes in the Sargasso Sea.
A three-dimensional coupled physical and
biological model was used together with in situ observations and a full
complement of remotely sensed information (altimetry, ocean color, scatterometry
and AVHRR) to study the biological and chemical ramifications of
spatially and temporally intermittent physical processes. The coupled model
system is configured in a
"Topex/Poseidon (T/P) Diamond" surrounding the U.S. JGOFS Bermuda Atlantic
Time Series Study (BATS) site, and is a hindcast simulation of streamfunction and vorticity for the BATS region:
Oct 92 - Sep 98". Reported fields from the gridded 4-D QG model include:
and with the rectangular coordinate system rotated 64 degrees counter-clockwise:
