What is the U.S. Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (U.S. JGOFS)?

U.S. JGOFS Overview
Assessing the Ocean's Role in the Global Carbon Cycle
by Margaret C. Bowles and Hugh D. Livingston

US JGOFS, a component of the National Science Foundation's U.S. Global Change Research Program, grew out of the recommendations of a 1984 National Academy of Sciences workshop held in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The strategy developed to reach the program goals combines the elements noted on the program Home Page into a cohesive, large-scale project whose synthesis will extend into the next century.
