"Primary Production of the Southern Ocean,"

We will conduct a comprehensive study of primary production by measuring the rate (using in situ and deck incubations for 14C uptake), and assessing the photosynthesis irradiance response. We will participate in all cruises, collecting data from the continental shelf of the Ross Sea and the APFZ. We will also be responsible for fluorometric chlorophyll a measurements, absorption spectra of particulates, and Epar(z,t). We anticipate strong collaboration with investigators interested in heterotrophic processes, grazing, nitrogen and oxygen productivity, silica dynamics, and optics. Our in situ array is available to others to attach incubation bottles for other rate measurements.
