Notes on integration

Integration was done by creating depth bins of fixed width, averaging all data within each bin, and summing the layer means. Bin widths were 15 m to 100 m depth, and 30 m below 100 m, similar to the sampling intervals used on the CTD casts. Integration depth was 120 m in all cases.

For comparison, an alternate method was applied whereby the trapezoid method was applied to individual profiles containing at least 4 data, and taking a mean of these profiles. Cruise mean integrated values derived in this way differed by <5% from those derived by the binning method above.
