U.S. JGOFS Synthesis & Modeling Project
Data Survey
July 10, 2000
If you have not
yet done so, please print this survey, complete it, and mail, email, or
fax your responses to J Kleypas (see address below)
-
Every SMP project is required
to provide data results for access to other researchers, and for long-term
archiving.
-
Below is a questionnaire about
the nature of data you will provide.
-
The results of this survey will
be (1) posted on the SMP web site, as a reference to other SMP PIs to help
facilitate cooperation between projects, and (2) used by the Data Management
Office to help plan for Data Management activities.
-
Some questions might not be
applicable to your project, but any information you provide will be helpful.
NAME (s):
PROJECT TITLE:
END DATE of PROJECT:
(1) When do you anticipate having data available
for other SMP researchers?
(2) Please indicate the nature(s) of data you
plan to provide?
(3) What is the spatial coverage of your data?
-
regional (please describe the area coverage)
(4) What is the spatial resolution of your
data?
(5) What is the temporal coverage of your data?
(6) What is the temporal resolution of your
data?
(7) Will your data be provided in a regular gridded
format, or in some other format? Please describe in some detail (e.g.
approx. number of dimensions, size of dimensions, ungridded distribution
map, etc.).
(8) Please estimate (at least roughly) the amount
of data you anticipate providing (in Mbytes, Gbytes,
etc.).
(9) In what data format(s) do you prefer to
vs can provide your data (binary, ASCII,
NetCDF, etc.)?

(10) In terms of data access, do you prefer
-
providing your data to the U.S. JGOFS Data Management
Office and having them handle it?
-
maintaining your data on your own system, and providing
access through DODS (Distributed Oceanographic Data Server)?
NOTE: A DODS server is available as part of the
SMP Live Access Server data system; providing access to your data via your
own system requires installation of DODS software, but may be worthwhile,
particularly for large data sets such as 3D model output. See http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/dods/
for information.
