"Does copepod grazing control large phytoplankton in the HNLC region of the Southern Ocean?"

In the APFZ I will (a) determine how much phytoplankton growth can be absorbed by copepod grazing before there is a sinking event, and (b) determine the potential contribution of copepod fecal pellets to sinking flux of C and Si. These objectives will be addressed by shipboard experiments and sample collection for later evaluation on land. I would like to participate in both process cruises in the APFZ. I will be collaborating closely with other zooplankton PIs (Huntley/Landry), and hope to obtain some samples from sediment trap PIs.
