U.S. JGOFS Specific plans for FY 1998-2000

Planning, Data Management and Synthesis Milestones

1998-1999:

• Conclusion of the first decade of Time-Series measurements of ocean biogeochemistry at Bermuda and Hawaii.
• Complete major two ship field program in the Southern Ocean.
• Completion of the CO2 survey on WHP cruises.
• Organize first Southern Ocean data workshop.
• Support Arabian Sea P.I. participation in an International Arabian Sea symposium.
• Organize meetings of each of the 5 major subgroups of the Synthesis and Modeling Project every six months.
• Convene 1998 summer U.S. JGOFS Synthesis and Modeling Workshop.
• Convene joint U.S. interagency workshop on ocean CO2 system synthesis.
• Support meetings of small groups (3-6) for synthesis manuscript(s) and atlas preparation.

1999-2000:

• Organize meetings of each of the 5 major subgroups of the Synthesis and Modeling Project every six months.
• Convene the 1999 summer U.S. JGOFS Synthesis and Modeling Workshop.
• Convene the 2000 summer U.S. JGOFS Synthesis and Modeling Workshop.
• Organize and partially support U.S. participation in an international conference on oceanic CO2 data assimilation, modeling and synthesis.
• Hold synthesis meeting of two weeks' duration for Southern Ocean PI's.
