To: All JGOFS From: Jon Alberts The Southern Ocean JGOFS Survey II cruise is underway. The R/V ROGER REVELLE sailed on schedule at 1600 hours, January 8, 1998 from the Port of Lyttelton, New Zealand with Captain Tom Desjardins, Master, and Dr. Kenneth Coale, MLML, Chief Scientist. The vessel is scheduled to return to Lyttelton on February 8, 1998. The science party sailing are as follows: Kenneth Coale, Ch. The Trace Metal Clean Rosette from the R/V NATHANIEL PALMER arrived from McMurdo and was assembled and tested by Corey Peterson. The SEASOAR winch and system was set up on the fantail. The SIO Lab Van for the Mitchell/Stramski group was placed on the fantail. The incubator tables were moved back up to the foredeck. The MLML Clean Van was secured on the stbd main deck as on Survey I. Repairs to the Markey winch were completed. All in all, things went very well with a great deal of cooperation from all hands.
