US JGOFS Antarctic Environments Southern Ocean Process Study (AESOPS) Revelle Leg KIWI06, Oct. - Nov. 1997; APFZ Survey 1 John M. Morrison 14 December 1998 This "readme" file pertains to the CTD data taken during R/V Roger Revelle Cruise KIWI06, 20 October 24 November 1997. Dr. Tim Cowles of the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University (cowles@oce.orst.edu) was the chief scientist during this leg. This cruise was the first survey leg on the R/V Roger Revelle during the U.S. JGOFS program in the Southern Ocean (AESOPS). The Revelle legs focused on the Polar Front region and complemented several AESOPS cruises on board the R/V Nathaniel Palmer which focused on the Ross Sea. Several casts were also made with with a trace metal clean rosette equipped with a SeaCat CTD which was lost on 13 Novenber 1997. These data were calibrated separately as this system was not designed to produce hydrographic data of "WOCE quality". These trace metal rosette data have been submitted to the U.S. JGOFS data base as separate files. TRACE METAL ROSETTE CTD Calibration: A single calibration is applied to all of the stations for salinity (conductivity): As can be seen in the SEA-BIRD Processing Information below, the CTD package was outfitted with: temperature and salinity sensors, Wet Labs WetStar Fluorometer, LICOR LI-192SA PAR and Sea-Tech LS6000 Backscatter sensor, This file only refers to the calibration of the CTD temperature and salinty sensors. The remainder of the sensors are to be calibrated by others. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SEA-BIRD Processing Information: Example R0600102.cnf_tm * Sea-Bird SBE 19 Data File: * FileName = G:\R0600102.HEX * Software Version 4.227 * Temperature SN = 2257 * Conductivity SN = 2257 * System UpLoad Time = Oct 24 1997 00:27:10 * NMEA Latitude = 57 0.08 S * NMEA Longitude = 169 59.86 W * NMEA UTC (Time) = 00000000 * Store Lat/Lon Data = Add to Header Only * Command Line = seasave -ctm_12 -d150m -l ** Ship: R/V Roger Revelle ** Cruisenumber: KIWI06-RR ** Cruisename: JGOFS S.O.
