Documentation for Zooplankton displacement volume data from MOCNESS (Multiple Opening and Closing Nets Envionment Sampling System) collected from AESOPS cruises

Mark Huntley and Meng Zhou

For tows conducted in the AESOPS site survey and the Ross Sea process surveys, the MOCNESS had nine nets. In a standard tow, a 155 um mesh net was used for net 1 as the single down-cast net, and 333 um mesh nets were used for nets 2 to 9 for sampling 8 strata (depth horizons: 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500m). In cruise NBP97-1, during phytoplankton blooming, net 1 was replaced with 505 um mesh net. Zooplankton displacement volume data are normalized and in the unit of ml/1000m3.
